HTK Group specialises in working with Māori and indigenous groups to build better futures. We work along-side whānau, businesses, corporates, hapū/iwi, institutions and not-for-profits creating tailor-made, innovative and dynamic solutions for your business.
HTK was established in 2015 to meet the growing demand for a consultancy organisation that understands the needs of Māori and indigenous organisations across the spectrum, from those building start-ups, developing existing businesses and programmes or seeking investment opportunities.
HTK offers the full range of Business Support Services, a Social Innovation Lab focused on developing initiatives that create real social impact, as well as a commercial development and investment arm.
HTK is a Māori organisation that specialises in working with indigenous cultures through harnessing the power of collaboration for our people, by our people and to our people.
Our Approach
At HTK experience has taught us that the foundations of success fully working with our clients (who we call partners)is effective relationships based on a critical understanding of your needs and aspirations, high levels of trust and confidence, and a team approach to developing robust solutions.
We have an experienced and talented group that first and foremost put in the time and attention needed to develop a strong and meaningful relationship so we can work closely with our partners.
We build trust and confidence through openness and transparency as we gain an in-depth understanding of your needs and aspirations, enabling us to provide foresight and analysis of your business environment, the challenges you may face and the opportunities that exist.
We will work collaboratively with you and members of our network of experienced industry experts.
Our point of difference
We are a Māori organisation delivering services for our people, by our people and to our people. Our team and network of collaborators have a strong knowledge of Te Ao Māori and experience working with other indigenous peoples, including Pasifika, Australian aborigine and indigenous Taiwanese.
Our team are highly innovative and creative thought-pioneers; that can also adapt our processes to suit conservative mainstream through to different cultural contexts and paradigms.
Unlike large consultancy firms, HTK is agile and adaptive to your changing needs and business environment. We are solution focussed and guided by our values. The HTK ethos is that we don’t develop issues to keep ourselves in a job or to keep us relevant to your organisation. We’ll roll up our sleeves, get in there, do the mahi to achieve our targets and complete our goals to the highest standard.
Our services are reasonably priced and aligned with the sectors we work in. We don’t charge corporate prices to small whānau organisations.

The HTK Group tohu captures the story of co-founders Renata Hakiwai and Chante Botica, and their whakapapa.
The tohu takes its form from the extinct Huia bird. The Huia is synonymous with the place in which Renata grew up, in Omahu, near Hastings, where it was revered and its feathers were reserved for Rangatira to wear.
The central spine of the tohu represents his awa, Ngaruroro mokotuararo ki rangatira which begins in the mountains of the Kaweka and Ruahine rangers where my ancestors lived.
The tohu within the awa represent his maunga of Puketapu, which sits alongside the awa. The tohu within, also incorporates the whare tipuna – Kahukuranui, the house named after the eldest son of Kahungunu; and the turangawaewae of Ngāti Hinemanu and Ngāi Te Upokoiri.
The three koru, represents on the mangopare represents the whakapapa of Chante Botica, her Ngai Tahu, Ngati Toa, Te Ati Hau and Ngapuhi heritage alongside their four tamariki.
As Managing Director of HTK Group, Renata Hakiwai brings together a range of experience in the commercial and public sector ranging from entrepreneurship, governance to senior and executive management.
Through Chante Botica’s experience in the education sector as a qualified teacher, she provides oversight of delivery in our education and training portfolio.
